I have been inspired over many years as an artist and also a passionate gardener with the wonderful planting schemes at Belton House. I was therefore delighted when asked to paint The Orangery and The Italian Garden to commemorate the retirement of Fred, Head Gardener after 23 years!
The work is a watercolour with natural materials set in the stone of the fountain. Collected over a year the following have been pressed, dried and crushed:
Fallen leaves from The Tulip Tree and tiny particles of leaves from every variety of flower including The Bishop of Llandaff Dahlias.
Glass beads form water droplets and the paint is mixed with a little water from the fountain ~ this year back in all its glory!
